55+ games kick off in Antigonish

The Nova Scotia 55+ Games are in full swing in Antigonish.

The co-chair of the 55+ Games says events have been going on all day Thursday, but the official opening ceremonies aren’t until Thursday at 7 p.m.

Diane Roberts tells The Hawk she was confident in their bid for the event, and she’s excited the to make Antigonish the host.

“I think it’s just incredibly awesome myself. Thanks to StFX University we certainly have the facilities there to host these games,” she says. “I’m not surprised, that when we put the bid in, that we would get the games, really not. Antigonish has a huge contingent of volunteers.”

Roberts says events include pickleball, hockey, and soccer.

She says the games run throughout the weekend with closing ceremonies Saturday evening.
