Federal minister responds to local statements regarding infrastructure funding

A cabinet minister with the federal government has issued a statement in response to comments from the warden of Inverness Co. and the mayor of the Town of Port Hawkesbury about how specific infrastructure funding that would have been used for a cancelled Inverness airport proposal can be used.

The Hawk received a statement from a spokesperson for Bernadette Jordan, the minister of rural economic development, Thursday:

“Schedule A Section 5 C of the Integrated Bilateral Agreement between the Government of Canada and the Government of Nova Scotia outlines the eligible project outcomes for the Rural and Northern Infrastructure Program, which includes improved and/or more reliable road infrastructure.”

Jordan would not comment on the record when we asked her Thursday; she nor anyone in her office would comment on conflicting statements made by Inverness Co. Warden Betty Ann MacQuarrie or Port Hawkesbury Mayor Brenda Chisholm-Beaton about how funding through Rural and Northern Infrastructure stream could be used.
