Memorial for those lost at sea to take place this weekend

A local community’s annual memorial to remember people who’ve died at sea is this weekend.

The Canso Lions Club is holding the ceremony on Sunday at the Seaman’s Memorial in Canso.

Chair of the Canso Seaman’s Memorial Ray White tells The Hawk it’s important to remember those who’ve lost their lives in our communities.

“Many communities throughout our area, particularly this year, have suffered the loss of loved ones and the memorial was constructed in Canso to remember fishermen, and women, who’ve lost their lives while engaged in the fishery,” he says.

Wreaths laid as part of the ceremony at the memorial will lay there for a week before being blessed and put to sea on the following Sunday.
