An algae bloom in a local lake has spread to parts of a connected river.
Nova Scotia Environment says a blue-green algae bloom which started in Lake Ainslie has now moved into the southwest branch of the Margaree River and the Lower Margaree River past Margaree Forks.
NS Environment says blooms can move, so you should look for signs of a bloom before swimming or using the water in the area
They say contact with blue-green algae can cause irritation or make you sick if ingested.
NS Environment is asking you to report a bloom if you see one in your area.
