Local community says over-stressed waste water plant causing problems

A community in the Quad Counties is holding a rally tonight to bring attention to problems with their wastewater plant.

The Inverness Development Association President says the community has been plagued by foul odors.

Rose Mary MacDonald tells The Hawk residents and visitors have noticed the smell.

“Tourists are like ‘what is that,’ and it’s not just one part of the community, whichever way the wind blows, it goes throughout the whole community,” she says. “It’s a crisis is what it is, and the beach is closed, people are getting sick because of the smell.”

MacDonald says she believes a recent E. coli closure of three-quarters of Inverness Beach may have been caused, in part, by the facility.

She says they’ve invited politicians from all levels of government to tonight’s rally, but says they’ve only gotten a response from Allan MacMaster.
