Federal officials provide funding for new marketing initiative

Officials with the federal government have announced funding to support a Destination Cape Breton tourism marketing strategy.

They’ll provide $185,000 toward the initiative to attract very specific, high-value travelers.

Mark Eyking, the MP for Sydney-Victoria, announced the funding on behalf of the minister responsible for the Atlantic Canada Opportunities Agency Friday.

Federal officials say the goal of the Community of Interest program is to create social media content targeted at outdoor adventure enthusiasts and travelers passionate about Gaelic culture.

They say travel influencers with large social media followings will connect with local ambassadors to create and share content highlighting the unique local experiences these enthusiasts want.
