Inverness Co. man charged with stealing four vehicles, gas and hitting RCMP cruiser

RCMP say a 30-year-old Inverness man is facing several charges following four separate vehicle thefts starting in Inverness Co. and he ended up in Colchester Co.

Police say on Friday at 3:19 p.m. officers in Port Hawkesbury responded to a call from a woman that her car was stolen from a repair shop in Port Hastings.

They say the car had been running outside the shop when it was stolen and not long after RCMP in Inverness responded to a call in Port Hood that someone in the same car just left without paying for gas.

Police say at 7:45 p.m. they were called regarding a suspicious person who came to a home in West Lake Ainslie.

RCMP say they later saw on security footage that he was looking around their vehicles and ducked down every time a vehicle went past their home and the man the man left on foot and headed towards Inverness.

Not long after that another resident on West Lake Ainslie Rd. called the RCMP to report that a man came to her home and asked to use the phone because he was having car trouble.

The man left and the woman heard a truck starting up and the man was driving away in their vehicle and the car stolen from Port Hastings was located nearby.

At 8:55 p.m. Chéticamp RCMP noticed the stolen truck heading North on the Cabot Trail

Police saw the truck turn into a service station and attempted to block it with a police vehicle, the driver struck the police cruiser and sped out of the parking lot at a high rate of speed.

Not long after RCMP were advised that the stolen truck was at the Inverness Raceway and another vehicle was stolen.

The next morning Colchester District RCMP responded to a call about the theft of a car and the vehicle stolen from the Inverness Raceway was left there.

Truro Police say at 4 p.m. they responded to a call of an intoxicated man trying to get into cars in the parking lot of a car dealership in Truro.

The suspect was arrested by a member of Truro Police and turned over to the RCMP.

30-year-old Eric Gordon Fraser of Inverness has been charged with theft of a motor vehicle, possession of stolen property over $5000, mischief under $5000, possession of property obtained by crime under $5000, and breach of probation.

Police say he investigation is ongoing and additional charges are possible.
