Power crews continue work to restore service; schools remain closed

The clean-up from Hurricane Dorian enters its third day.

More than 100,000 Nova Scotia Power customers are still without power- roughly half of Monday’s number- as members of power crews from our province, New Brunswick, Quebec, Maine and Florida try to get the lights back on.

The majority of estimated restoration times are 11 p.m. Wednesday; however, a news release indicates NSP officials expect to have service restored to roughly 37,000 homes and businesses in the northeastern part of the mainland and Cape Breton early than originally anticipated, by late Tuesday.

Comfort centres remain in place in various parts of the Quad Counties; Inverness Co. officials are asking customers on their municipal water system to conserve water.

Meanwhile, schools across the province remain closed as the post-Dorian clean-up continues.

Reps with the province’s Emergency Management Office recommended the closures, which include the Strait Regional Centre for Education and CSAP schools.

It’s the second day in a row with no school following the hurricane.

NSCC Strait Area Campus and Wagmatcook Campus students return to class Tuesday.
