Back to school following Dorian; crews continue work to restore power

The majority of students and teachers within the Strait Regional Centre for Education return to class Wednesday.

They’re back after two days to allow for Hurricane Dorian clean-up.

There are three exceptions- Bayview Education Centre in Port Hood and Dalbrae Academy in Mabou remain closed due to no water, while Felix Marchand Education Centre in Louisdale has no power.

Roughly 65,000 homes and businesses are still waiting for the lights to come back on; Nova Scotia Power‘s outage map indicates estimated restoration times in the Quad Counties are anywhere from 11 p.m. Wednesday to 11 p.m. Friday.

Members of the military arrived in Port Hawkesbury to help with restoration efforts Wednesday morning.
