Warden says municipal officials are moving closer to building compost facility

The warden of the Municipality of the District of Guysborough says they’re moving ahead with plans for a new compost facility.

Federal and provincial officials announced more than $1.3 million in funding for two organic material processing buildings in August; municipal officials are providing close to $500,000.

After September’s regular municipal council meeting Wednesday, Vernon Pitts, Guysborough’s warden, said they’re close to selecting a winning bid for the project.

“The tender actually went out the day they announced the funding- the documents were all ready, (and) the tender went out that day,” he said. “The tender closes, actually, this coming Friday.”

Pitts said they’ve already done some preparation work at the site, and they hope to have the new building up winter.
