Environment Canada forecaster says models predict warm fall

The senior climatologist at Environment Canada says he expects a nice fall in the Quad Counties.

Fall officially arrived Monday.

Dave Phillips with Environment Canada tells The Hawk he predicts a warm, pleasant season.

“Our models are showing a warmer than normal fall,” he says. “We think that September, October, November- particularly mid-September to mid-October- is absolutely quite delightful.”

Phillips says temperatures will be roughly a degree above average.

He says a warm fall makes for a shorter winter, something that didn’t happen in 2018.

“There was one mild month in about eight, and boy, that made for a kind of testy kind of winter- just too long and too hard,” he says. “Well, (in 2019), we think it won’t be- at least at the front end- as early coming as what we saw (in 2018).”

Phillips says models indicate the season could be wetter than normal.
