The former finance director of the Coady International Institute is scheduled to return to court in his fraud case in November.
RCMP say they received a complaint regarding fraud at the Coady in July 2018.
James Edward Marlow, 54, of Lower South River, who was fired from the university the same month, has been accused of misappropriating close to $250,000.
Officers arrested Marlow in Sept. 2018; he faces charges of theft over $5,000, fraud over $5,000 and criminal breach of trust.
He was released on conditions; his case opened in court in December.
Marlow was expected for election-and-plea in Antigonish Provincial Court Wednesday; instead, the hearing was adjourned until Nov. 7.
It was also adjourned in February, April, July and August.
He’s accused of creating fake invoices from suppliers, requisitioning cheques from StFX for those invoices, and putting the cheques into his personal account, which constitutes misappropriation of funds, theft and fraud.
University officials filed a lawsuit against Marlow in Aug. 2018; they’re asking for punitive and aggravated damages, as well as interest and legal costs.
They say they reviewed their internal financial management processes to ensure future integrity and security, and their review found no other irregularities, so they’re confident the matter was isolated.
