Local Sports Preview (Saturday)

The StFX men’s hockey team is on home ice for the first time in the 2019-20 AUS season.

The X-Men (1-0-0), who won their season opener against Dalhousie in Halifax Wednesday night, play the UPEI Panthers in their home opener.

Puck drop at the Antigonish Arena is 7 p.m.

 

The Cape Breton West Islanders have their home opener in the Nova Scotia Major Midget Hockey League.

The Islanders (1-1-0), who split their first two road games of the season against the Valley Wildcats, take on Dartmouth (0-1-0), who lost their only game of the season.

Puck drop at the Al MacInnis Sports Centre in Port Hood is 6 p.m.

The teams square off again in Port Hood Sunday afternoon.

 

The two local teams in the Nova Scotia Female Midget AAA Hockey League are on home ice.

The Northern Selects (2-0-0), winners of their first two games of the season, are taking on the EDZA West Reds (2-2-0), who have split their first four games, at the Pictou Co. Wellness Centre at 12 p.m.

The teams play again in New Glasgow Sunday afternoon.

The Panthers (1-1-0), who split their opening two games, play the Penguins (0-3-1), who are winless, in Membertou at 4:30 p.m.

They meet again in Membertou Sunday morning.

 

The Cabot Highlanders visit the Basin Armada in the Nova Scotia Minor Midget AAA Hockey League.

The Highlanders (0-2-0) are winless to start the season, while the Armada (2-0-0) are perfect.

Game time is 5:30 p.m.

The teams play again in Bedford Sunday afternoon.

 

The Novas play their first home games of the 2019-20 Nova Scotia Major Bantam Hockey League.

The Novas (1-1-0), who split their first two games on the road, face Kings (2-0-0), who are undefeated to start the season.

Puck drop at the Antigonish Arena is 3 p.m.

The Novas host Dartmouth in Port Hawkesbury Sunday afternoon.

 

The province’s two Quebec Major Junior Hockey League teams are on home ice.

The Halifax Mooseheads, who won/lost their home opener against Charlottetown Friday night, host Pomquet’s Logan Chisholm and the Acadie-Bathurst Titan at Scotiabank Centre.

The Cape Breton Eagles (2-0-0) welcome the Saint John Sea Dogs (2-0-0) in their 2019-20 home opener at Centre 200 in Sydney; the teams, who are both perfect to start the season, square off again in Sydney Sunday afternoon.

Both games get underway at 7 p.m.

 

The StFX men’s football team is in New Brunwsick for AUS action.

The X-Men meet the Mount Allison Mounties in a match-up of teams at the bottom of the standings in the four-team conference; StFX (1-3) is fourth with two points, two points behind Bishop’s for third, and two points ahead of last-place Mount Allison (0-4), who remain winless.

It’s the second and final regular season game between the teams- the X-Men won the first 16-6 in Antigonish in August.

Kick off is 2 p.m.
