Five areas within Inverness Co. are among new protected lands announced by provincial officials.
The Cape Mabou Wilderness Area and Ashfield Nature Reserve are now protected.
There are also expansions to protected lands in the Middle River Wilderness Area, River Denys Nature Reserve and River Inhabitants Nature Reserve.
Provincial officials announced the protection of 17 new tracts of land Monday.
The St. Mary’s River Provincial Park will be designated once consultation and survey work is finished.
