The Green Party candidate in Cape Breton-Canso says the future is not a happy picture.
Clive Doucet is a writer and a former four-term city councillor in Ottawa; he ran unsuccessfully for mayor in 2010.
He says he moved back to Grand Etang, Inverness Co. in 2016.
Doucet tells The Hawk he’s running for the Greens because it’s a key time in our region and country, and we have to change.
“I don’t see solutions coming down the pipe- in fact, I have a feeling Cape Breton is being abandoned by the political parties,” he says. “We see band-aids, but the real problems are not addressed.”
Doucet says there are big environmental problems, and it’s not the time for the traditional parties.
He says he’s hearing plenty of support on the doorsteps of the riding.
“The people I talk to, the response is absolutely overwhelming,” he says. “They want a change, and they’re considering the Greens the change they need.”
Doucet says Tommy Douglas changed the country with a good voice and a small but powerful caucus.
He says Elizabeth May, the federal Green Party leader, has a good voice, now she just needs a strong caucus.
The federal election takes place Oct. 21.
