Fire hall needs new permanent back-up generator- mayor

Officials in the Town of Mulgrave are investigating the possibility of getting a new back-up generator for their fire hall before the next serious storm.

Councillors decided to transfer an EMO generator from public works to cover the fire hall during power outages at October’s regular town council meeting Monday night.

After the meeting, Ralph Hadley, Mulgrave’s mayor, told The Hawk they need the coverage to ensure effective fire service in a power outage.

“We’re going to move on that quick as possible- the bad weather is coming now, the winter, cold weather is coming (and) we can’t leave the fire hall without any back-up power,” he said. “The generator that’s at the fire hall now is damaged, and they’re looking at repairing it, so it’s going to cost quite a lot to get it repaired.”

Hadley said the generator would remain in place until that can happen, and they are working on a permanent solution.

He said the fire hall needs it to operate power doors and other systems during an outage.
