A man charged in relation to a sexual assault in Port Hawkesbury volunteered with cadets in Richmond Co.
Police say James Darren Peters was charged after a nine-year-old boy was lured into the bathroom of a Port Hawkesbury business, was forced into a bathroom stall, and had his pants pulled down.
The boy was able to escape and tell a family member.
Regional Cadet Support Unit (Atlantic) officials confirmed Wednesday that James Darren Peters was a volunteer with the cadet program.
“We have taken the immediate step of suspending the member from further participation in the program or any contact with our members.”
Peters was involved with 2842 L’Ardoise Legion Engineering Army Cadets.
Because Peters was involved with youth, RCMP are asking guardians, parents, and youth who had contact with Peters to encourage anyone who may also be a victim to contact them.
RCMP say Peters faces 2 counts of Enticing a Child from a Parent, as well as Sexual Interference, Unlawful Confinement, Sexual Assault, and Assault charges.
Police say they arrested Peters on Oct 1, he was released on conditions Oct 3.
Peters is scheduled for a court appearance in Port Hawkesbury on November 25.
