Charges have been laid in relation to a fatal crash that claimed the lives of a mother and daughter from Antigonish.
RCMP say a transport truck veered into the oncoming lane of Hwy. 104 in Barney’s River Station and hit a Pontiac G6 Saturday night; Helen Sampson, 74, and Eva Sampson, 51, were pronounced dead at the scene.
Devon Michael Dewtie, 19, of Trenton faces two counts of criminal negligence causing death.
Police say a mattress flew off the roof of his car and ended up on the road, which caused the driver of the transport truck to lose control and hit the victims’ vehicle.
Dewtie, who was arrested without incident at a home in Greenwood Sunday, appeared in Pictou Provincial Court Tuesday; he was released on conditions.
He’s scheduled to return to court Nov. 12.
