Both StFX hockey teams are in AUS action.

The X-Men host the UNB Varsity Reds at the Keating Centre in Antigonish.

StFX (3-2-1), losers of three straight after three straight wins to start the 2019-20 season, sits fourth in the seven-team conference with seven points, a point behind Saint Mary’s for third, and a point ahead of Moncton and Dalhousie, the two teams tied for fifth; UNB (5-1-0) is second with 10 points.

The X-Men are ranked ninth in the country; the Varsity Reds are first.

It’s the second game in the five-game season series between the long-time rivals; UNB won the first 6-3 in Fredericton Oct. 18.

The X-Women play the first of back-to-back road games when they travel to Sackville to meet the Mount Allison Mounties.

StFX (4-2-0), losers of back-to-back games after four straight wins to open the season, are tied with UNB for third in their eight-team conference with eight points, two points behind UPEI and Saint Mary’s, the two teams tied for top spot, and two points ahead of fifth-place St. Thomas; Mount Allison (0-6-0), winless in the first six to start the season, is last.

The teams have met once so far in the four-game season series- StFX shutout Mount Allison 4-0 in their season opener in Sackville Oct. 4.

The X-Women square off with Saint Mary’s in Halifax Saturday night.

Both games get underway at 7 p.m.

 

The two local teams in the Nova Scotia Junior Hockey League are on the ice.

The Strait Pirates host the Brookfield Elks at the Port Hawkesbury Civic Centre.

The Pirates (5-2-1), who have lost two of their last three, are third in the six-team Sid Rowe Division with 11 points, a point behind Antigonish for second, and six points ahead of fourth-place Eskasoni; the Elks (1-7-0), with one win in eight games to start the season, are last in the Fred Fox Division with two points.

It’s the second and final regular season game between the teams- the Pirates won the first game 6-3 in Brookfield Oct. 12.

The Antigonish Bulldogs are in Springhill to take on the Cumberland Co. Blues.

The Bulldogs (6-2-0), winners of back-to-back games and six of their last seven, are second in the Sid Rowe Division with 12 points, a point behind the Miners for top spot, and a point ahead of the third-place Pirates; the Blues (0-8-0), still in search of their first win of the season, are last in the division and the entire league.

The teams have met once so far in their four-game season series- Antigonish won 4-0 at home Oct. 18.

Both games get underway at 7:30 p.m.

 

The Cabot Highlanders are taking part in the 2019 Rob Sneath Memorial Tournament in Halifax.

The Highlanders play their first game against the Admirals from the Nova Scotia Minor Midget AAA Hockey League at 11:45 a.m.

They play PEI at 9 p.m.

 

There’s a game in the Cape Breton West High School Hockey League.

The Dalbrae Dragons host the SAERC Saints in the 2019-20 season opener for both teams, which is also the first half of a home-and-home series.

Puck drop at the Al MacInnis Sports Centre in Port Hood is 7:30 p.m.

The teams meet again in Port Hawkesbury Saturday night.

 

The Halifax Mooseheads host Pleasant Valley’s Jacob Hudson, Antigonish’s Jake and Sean Stewart and the Moncton Wildcats in the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League.

The Mooseheads (7-6-0), who have lost back-to-back games, are seventh in the 10-team Eastern Conference with 14 points, two points behind Quebec for fifth, and four points ahead of eight-place Baie-Comeau; the Wildcats (10-3-0) are fourth with 20 points.

Halifax won the first of nine regular season games between the Maritimes Division rivals 4-2 in Moncton Oct. 11.

Puck drop at Scotiabank Centre is 7 p.m.

It’s the first of back-to-back games for the Mooseheads, who visit Saint John Saturday night.

 

The StFX soccer teams are in Wolfville to take on Acadia in their final games of the 2019 AUS regular season.

The X-Men (8-2-1), who have one loss in their last nine games, are second in the 10-team conference with 25 points, three points behind Cape Breton for top spot, and two points ahead of third-place UNB; the Axemen (2-8-1) are ninth with seven points.

StFX has already clinched a playoff spot; a win, or a UNB loss or tie against Cape Breton, would clinch a first-round bye.

The X-Women (7-0-4), who remain undefeated in 2019, are second in their 10-team conference with 25 points, four points behind the Axewomen (9-0-2), ranked sixth in the country, for top spot, and a point ahead of third-place Cape Breton.

It’s the first and only regular season games between the teams.

The women start at 5 p.m.; the men get underway at 7:15 p.m.

 

The Dr. J.H. Gillis girls soccer team plays the first of potentially two NSSAF provincial qualifying games.

The Royals host the Dartmouth High Spartans in Antigonish at 3 p.m.

A win sends them to Sydney to play Riverview High in another qualifier Saturday morning; a loss ends their season.
