StFX’s climate and democracy week kicks off

Thursday is the first day of StFX‘s climate and democracy week.

Corrine Cash, a climate expert with StFX’s climate services and research centre, says it’s about climate from a social perspective.

Cash tells The Hawk they’re taking a holistic view of the problem of climate change.

“It’s looking at climate as a human rights issue, as an equity issue- we’re looking at the human impact of the science behind climate change,” she says. “It’s people who are already vulnerable, or people who are already suffering from poverty in some way, who are going to be impacted.”

Cash says events start Thursday night.

She says the opening features a keynote address by Blair Feltmate, the chair of the Government of Canada’s climate adaptation plan, called “Hotter, Wetter, Wilder: Is Canada Moving Fast Enough to Keep Up with a Changing Climate?”

Events continue until Nov. 21.

Ashlee Cunsolo of the Labrador Institute at Memorial University will provide the closing talk “Mourning Nature.”
