Municipal councillors in Inverness Co. have voted to ask for a presentation by reps with Bell Aliant.
They say the request comes following the success of the Nova Scotia Power presentation on Hurricane Dorian response at November’s regular municipal council meeting Thursday afternoon.
Warden Betty Ann MacQuarrie says communication issues were the second biggest problem during and after Dorian, so they want to hear from company reps responsible for the communications infrastructure that went down during the storm.
After Thursday’s meeting, MacQuarrie said they’ll send an official request soon.
“It’s been a while since they’ve been at our council table,” she said. “There are issues that we would like to talk to them about as well, and I hope they bring a contingent in like Nova Scotia Power did.”
MacQuarrie said it’s important to maintain landline service during extended outages.
She said their region suffers from bad communication infrastructure in good weather.
“It just gets worse if there’s a storm, but the service that we get is just not adequate for us,” she said. “We’d like to talk to them about that as well.”
MacQuarrie said the municipality’s poor high-speed Internet access and cell reception will also be part of that conversation.
