Local theatre reps one step closer to expansion- warden

Guysborough‘s warden says they’re closer to gaining ownership of the community’s former NSLC building.

Vernon Pitts says they received a letter of offer from provincial officials to divest the property for $1.

After November’s regular municipal council meeting Wednesday afternoon, Pitts said the plan remains to flip the property to Mulgrave Road Theatre reps to help them expand.

“Once we have it, we’ll sit down (and) have a discussion with Mulgrave Road (to) see what their plans are,” he said. “Hopefully, we’ll continue to partner with them going forward.”

Pitts said municipal officials have no interest in keeping the building.

“I, as warden, don’t want to see the municipality retain ownership of that property,” he said. “If we’re divesting ourselves of the property, sell the property for the sum of $1, and be it considered as a contribution from MODG.”

Pitts said things in government move slowly during the holidays, so he doesn’t expect any transfers to happen before the new year.
