Warden says councillors have invited new MP to meeting

The warden of the Municipality of the District of Guysborough says he expects to work closely with the new MP for the area.

Liberal Mike Kelloway was elected in Cape Breton-Canso in October’s federal election, replacing long-time MP Rodger Cuzner, who didn’t re-offer after 19 years.

After November’s regular municipal council meeting Wednesday afternoon, Vernon Pitts, Guysborough’s warden, said he hopes to sit down with Kelloway soon.

“Council sent him off a letter requesting, at his earliest convenience, that he comes in (and) sits down with us,” he said. “That way the right hand knows what the left hand is doing.”

Pitts said they haven’t heard back on their request as of yet.

He said he plans to work very closely with Kelloway, as he did with Cuzner.
