Municipal officials in Richmond Co. have rejected a request for additional funding for Strait Area Transit.
There wasn’t a motion made at November’s regular municipal council meeting.
Warden Brian Marchand said councillors asked him to tell SAT reps they won’t offer the requested $2,100 in extra funding.
“The last time I brought it forward, council asked for some more information- they wanted a breakdown exactly what it was for,” he said. “I received that, and gave them that- (we) heard the discussions, and people were not prepared to move forward with it.”
Marchand said SAT reps requested the money to help cover the cost of GPS for their fleet, but councillors didn’t think they were necessary for the service to function.
He said they already spend $100,000 a year on SAT, and they weren’t prepared to spend any more than that.
