Verdict expected following sexual assault trial of former StFX football players

Two former members of the X-Men football team charged following a sexual assault investigation at StFX are scheduled to learn the outcome of their trial Wednesday.

RCMP say an 18-year-old told them she was sexually assaulted on campus in Nov. 2017; that led a 19-year-old to come forward and report two separate cases of sexual assault on campus.

Jonah Williams, 21, of Halifax was originally charged with three counts of sexual assault against two different women, but had two of those three charges dismissed; Tyler Ball, 20, of Truro faces a single count of sexual assault.

Both were committed to stand trial on a single count of sexual assault after their preliminary hearings wrapped up in Sept. 2018; their judge-only trial got underway in Nova Scotia Supreme Court in Antigonish Oct. 21.

It lasted nine days, wrapping up Oct. 31.

The judge in the case is expected to deliver a verdict at 11:30 a.m.; The Hawk will be there.

The pair played defensive back for StFX- Williams was in the team’s starting line-up, Ball was not.

Neither Williams nor Ball are still with the X-Men football program.
