Chief says new travel centre almost complete

A local First Nation’s Chief says their new travel centre should be open soon.

Paqtnkek Mi’kmaw Nation Chief PJ Prosper says they’ve been working through some delays, but expect the Bayside Travel Centre to open in early January.

Prosper tells The Hawk the issue isn’t really with the construction.

“It’s a combination of things, certainly weather, but in addition to that there’s some orders on major components that have been, the delivery dates, have been delayed.”

Prosper says work on the building itself is nearly complete.

He says negotiations with vendors are in the final stages, so they’ve begun looking for interest in some of the centre’s roughly 60 jobs.

Prosper says the $4 million dollar project is still on budget.
