Local sports preview (Friday)

Both StFX hockey teams are on the ice.

The X-Men, playing their final AUS game before the Christmas break, host the UPEI Panthers.

The teams have split the first two games in their five-game season series.

The game is at the Antigonish Arena as the Keating Centre prepares for fall convocation and the annual X-Ring ceremony.

The X-Women (10-5-1), with one loss in their last five, meet the Moncton Blue Eagles (3-12-1) in New Brunswick.

StFX has won the first two games in the four-game season series between the teams.

Both games get underway at 7 p.m.

The X-Women wrap up their pre-Christmas schedule against UPEI in Charlottetown Saturday afternoon.

 

The Strait Pirates host the East Hants Penguins in the Nova Scotia Junior Hockey League.

The Pirates (10-5-3), who have lost two of their last three, are third in the six-team Sid Rowe Division with 23 points, two points behind the Miners and Antigonish, who are tied for top spot, and 14 points ahead of Pictou Co. and Eskasoni, the two teams tied for fourth; the Penguins (12-6-1) are second in the six-team Fred Fox Division with 25 points.

It’s the second and final regular season game between the teams, and the second half of a home-and-home series- East Hants won the opener 3-1 at home Sunday.

Puck drop at the Port Hawkesbury Civic Centre is 7:30 p.m.
