The closing date for tenders for a project manager for Mulgrave’s wastewater infrastructure upgrade project has been extended.
At Monday’s regular council meeting, CAO Darlene Berthier Sampson told council Infrastructure Canada required consultation with local First Nations to get funding for the project, so they’ve sent a letter to Paqtnkek Chief PJ Prosper to get the community’s input.
After, Berthier Sampson told The Hawk the delay won’t be too much of an issue; they’ve gotten a number of requests for additional information on the project and can use the time to answer them.
“For us we just want to keep the momentum of the project going and so I just see it as a respectful request,” she said. “I believe it’s just a formality, and that all good things happen for a reason, and this pause is very timely.”
Berthier Sampson said they are going to provide a 2010 study on wastewater infrastructure in the town, and some clarification they would prefer a project manager independent from the design and build firm, to the request for tenders.
She said they didn’t think their application required consultation because of its relatively small size and budget, so have requested confirmation from Infrastructure Canada in addition to requesting input from Paqtnkek Mi’kmaw Nation.
