Reeves Street isn’t the only street in Port Hawkesbury looking at some major changes.
Staff presented recommendations from the Granville Street traffic study at Tuesday’s regular council meeting.
They gave recommendations on how to improve safety at four intersections: Granville Street and Prince Street, Granville Street and MacSween Street, Granville Street and Pitt Street, and Granville Street and Sydney Road.
Afterward, Mayor Brenda Chisholm-Beaton told The Hawk one of those intersections got more attention than the others.
Staff presented three options to fix safety concerns at the intersection of Prince Street and Granville Street; of the three options presented, only one would allow drivers to turn from Prince Street onto Granville Street.
Chisholm-Beaton told The Hawk they weren’t really satisfied with any of the options.
“We really do feel like there is a happy medium, and increasing safety is absolutely important, but let’s do it in a way that we don’t have to eliminate an important access point,” she said. “Granville Street is quite a busy street, and we want to make sure that we have a really good setup.”
She said they’ve asked staff to look at some more alternatives for that intersection before they move into public consultation.
Chisholm-Beaton said they’ve been hearing complaints about the street for some time, and now they have the data to back them up.
