The two local teams in the Nova Scotia Junior Hockey League are on the road.
The Strait Pirates visit the Cole Harbour Colts.
The Pirates (12-5-3), who have won back-to-back games and three of their last four, are second in the six-team Sid Rowe Division with 27 points, a point behind the Miners for top spot, and two points ahead of third-place Antigonish; the Colts (11-6-1) are tied for third in the Fred Fox Division with 23 points.
It’s the second and final regular season game between the teams- Cole Harbour won the first 3-2 in a shootout in Port Hawkesbury in October.
The Antigonish Bulldogs travel to Windsor to meet the Valley Maple Leafs.
The Bulldogs (12-3-1), winners of three straight and four of their last five, are third in the Sid Rowe with 25 points, two points behind the Pirates for second, and 14 points ahead of fourth-place Pictou Co.; the Maple Leafs (7-6-2) are fifth in the Fred Fox with 16 points.
It’s the first game in the two-game season series.
Both games get underway at 7:30 p.m.
The Battle of Nova Scotia resumes in the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League.
The Halifax Mooseheads host the Cape Breton Eagles.
The Eagles (16-10-2), with one win in their last four, are fifth in the 10-team Eastern Conference with 34 points, two points behind Charlottetown for fourth, and five points ahead of the Mooseheads (13-12-3), who have won two of their last three to sit tied with Baie-Comeau for sixth with 29 points, and two points ahead of eighth-place Saint John.
Cape Breton has won the first three games in the nine-game season series.
Puck drop at Scotiabank Centre in Halifax is 7 p.m.
It’s the first half of a home-and-home series between the provincial rivals; they square off again in Sydney Saturday night.
A number of local teams are competing at NSSAF volleyball provincials.
East Antigonish/Pomquet, the Dalbrae Dragons and Cape Breton Highlands Academy Huskies are among six teams playing for the Div. 2 boys banner in Middleton.
The SAERC Saints are hosting the eight-team Div. 2 girls championship at SAERC and TEC in Port Hawkesbury; the Richmond Academy Hurricanes are the other local team participating.
The Ecole acadienne de Pomquet Panthers are hosting eight teams at the Division 3 girls tournament; the NDA Acadiens, East Antigonish Academy Mustangs and Inverness Academy Rebels are also competing.
