The Municipality of the County of Inverness is hiring a dedicated water meter technician.
At Thursday’s regular council meeting, the municipality’s CAO told council a number of issues arose from the water meter upgrades; including finding some meters completely rusted, non-complaint, or missing.
He said hiring a new staff member is required; Inverness Co.’s new meters can only be serviced by a municipal employee, having their own employee would ensure consistent work, and would pay for itself within a year.
After, Warden Betty Ann MacQuarrie told The Hawk the position will help keep the water service complaint.
“The person that we hire as the water meter technician will maintain what we’ve already worked so hard to establish,” she said. “So that the water meters are checked on a regular basis, and people are satisfied with the way things are running. It’s all better service for our communities.”
MacQuarrie said, in addition to installing meters to compliance standards, the position will ensure consistency and improve overall service.
