Mulgrave mayor says he’s optimistic, despite setbacks

The mayor of Mulgrave says they’ve done the best they can in the face of a few setbacks in 2019.

In a year end interview, Ralph Hadley said they didn’t expect to take over the former Mulgrave school.

Hadley told The Hawk they’ve completed renovations to the building, converted the heating system to biofuel, and replaced a section of the roof torn off by Hurricane Dorian.

“We had quite a bit of damage there after,” he said. “We’re back in business again and open for business.”

Hadley said Dorian did significant damage in the town, they had to hire a contractor to git rid of the remains of their marina, which was destroyed by the hurricane.

Hadley said their priority next year will be to complete infrastructure upgrades: chiefly their new wastewater plant.

He said they’re already asking for proposals for a project manager; they’re looking for a company to oversee the wastewater facility construction from start to finish.

“We’re waiting on that, that’s going to be a major project,” he said. “It’s going to be good that we get rid of our old wastewater treatment plant and get a new one.”

Hadley said it’s the second part of their water infrastructure upgrade plan. Their water plant was completed in 2018.

He said they’re also looking to re-pave roads and add more tenants to their former school.

Hadley wouldn’t say if he’ll run for mayor again in the upcoming 2020 municipal elections.
