Crisis nurse called to testify at Desmond Inquiry

The Desmond Fatality Inquiry’s ninth day starts in Guysborough Tuesday.

The crisis nurse who saw Lionel Desmond three months before the 2017 triple murder-suicide in Upper Big Tracadie will take the stand for the second time.

Heather Wheaten spent her first day describing her work and mental health crisis care in the province Monday.

Wheaten told the inquiry her work is in emergency care, which means she gathers information quickly.

“Insofar as it might be helpful or applicable in the moment, in the crisis, I don’t- I can’t- dig into records from five years ago, or go trying to track things down.”

Wheaten said she doesn’t have time to do a deep dive on patient history.

Her testimony resumes at 10 a.m. Tuesday.
