Provincial officials announce clean energy and active transportation funding

Three communities in Antigonish Co. are getting some provincial funding for clean energy and active transportation projects.

Randy Delorey, the province’s health and wellness minister and Antigonish’s MLA, announced more than $104,000 in funding through the provincial Low Carbon Communities program for three projects on behalf of Derek Mombourquette, the minister of energy and mines.

Officials with the Paqtnkek Mi’kmaw Nation are getting more than $49,000 for a new, 350-metre active transportation trail between the Bayside Connector Trail and Saqamaw Rd.

Municipal officials in Antigonish Co. are in line for more than $38,000 for a feasibility study to determine what energy projects best meet climate change mitigation, local employment, and energy targets.

Members of the St. Andrews Community Partnership Association will receive $16,000 to replace their church’s oil-fired steam boiler with an energy-efficient option and convert the heating system.
