Two of four people arrested in fishing dispute have case adjourned

A father and son charged in an apparent case of vigilante justice in Guysborough Co. are scheduled to return to court in the spring.

RCMP say the operator of one fishing boat deliberately rammed another boat in May 2018.

They say no one was hurt, but one boat was damaged.

Police say it stemmed from recent fishing licence changes in the area, even though no one involved was fishing illegally.

They say they responded to an assault complaint one night later; the victim was taken to hospital with injuries.

RCMP say they believe that was related to the incident the night before.

They say they arrested four people in total.

Eric Victor Pace, 65, from Marie Joseph faces one count of dangerous operation of a motor vessel; Richard Pace, 46, from Marie Joseph has been charged with uttering threats and mischief causing danger to life.

They were expected for election-and-plea in Antigonish Provincial Court Thursday; instead, their hearings were adjourned until May 13.

They were also adjourned in Nov. 2018, Feb. 2019, and October.

Austin Stillmant Chambers, 53, of Ecum Secum pleaded not guilty to an assault causing bodily harm count in Nov. 2018; his trial, which got underway in Antigonish Provincial Court in July, wrapped up in September.

The judge found him not guilty in December.
