Port Hawkesbury town officials have put their doctor recruitment plan into action.
Six doctors were in the town for a site visit Monday.
Each one has already immigrated to the country, but has yet to find a place to practice medicine.
After March’s regular meeting Tuesday night, Trevor Boudreau, a town councillor and the chair of the town’s health care recruitment committee, said there was some interest from the physicians, and he has high hopes one of them will choose the area.
“We took them to a couple of the schools in the community, we took them to the yacht club, we took them around our recreation facilities and cultural facilities,” he said. “(We wanted) to ensure they understood what our town has to offer- especially a community this size- and the bang for their buck they would get.”
Boudreau said they learned a lot from the experience, even if none of the doctors choose to come to the community.
He said they’ll be able to build an even better tour for the next doctors who visit.
