Fears of the coronavirus have led officials with the Strait Regional Centre for Education to call off all school-organized trips to international destinations between now and the end of April.
The same call has been made right across the province.
In a letter to parents and guardians, Paul Landry, the SRCE’s regional executive director of education, says they had discussions with Dr. Robert Strang, the province’s chief medical officer of health, and decided the best approach is a low-risk one, given students are involved.
Landry says no decision has been made on trips scheduled for May or June at this point.
He says they’ll provide further direction by April 9.
Officials with the provincial government say they’re working with reps with travel companies to find options for parents who didn’t buy cancellation insurance.
