Suspect in alleged home invasion pleads guilty to two charges

A woman from Sydney Mines facing three charges after an alleged home invasion in Inverness Co. has entered a pair of guilty pleas in the case.

Jessica Carolanne Leroy, 24, had been charged with break-and-enter with intent, causing a disturbance and resisting arrest; the break-and-enter count was changed to mischief, and Leroy pleaded guilty to that charge and resisting arrest during an election-and-plea hearing in Wagmatcook Provincial Court Wednesday.

The Crown withdrew the charge of causing a disturbance; sentencing is scheduled to take place May 6.

RCMP say four people went to a home on Subdivision Rd. in Waycobah in May 2018; there was an altercation, and bear spray was used.

They say another woman was injured when she was assaulted with a rock.

Police say they arrested the woman following a short foot chase; she was treated for minor injuries, spent the night in custody, and was released on conditions the next day.

They say they also arrested a man, but he fled in a vehicle.
