Local sports preview (Thursday)

The Antigonish Bulldogs hit the road for game four of their first-round, Nova Scotia Junior Hockey League playoff series against the Eskasoni Eagles.

The Bulldogs lead the best-of-seven, Sid Rowe Division semi-final 2-1 after a 6-2 win on home ice Tuesday night; the home team has won the first three games.

Game time is 7:30 p.m.

The series returns to Antigonish for game five Friday night.

The StFX women’s hockey team will try to clinch the AUS championship- and a spot at nationals- with a win on home ice against the Saint Mary’s Huskies in game two of their conference final.

The X-Women, who have won 15 straight games and 19 of the last 20 dating back to the regular season, doubled the Huskies 4-2 in the opening game of the best-of-three series in Halifax Tuesday night.

Puck drop at the Keating Centre is 7 p.m.

A StFX win gives them the AUS title and a berth in the U Sports championship in Charlottetown March 12-15; a Saint Mary’s win forces a third and deciding game in the series back in Halifax Saturday night.

Catherine Kennedy, a StFX runner, is competing in the 600m heats at the U Sports track and field championship in Edmonton.

Kennedy will try to advance to Saturday’s final.

Her race gets underway at 10:30 p.m.
