Former Inverness South MLA, cabinet minster passes away

A former local MLA and provincial cabinet minister has died.

Bill MacEachern of Judique died in hospital in Halifax Sunday; he was 89.

MacEachern was first elected to represent the provincial riding of Inverness South in 1974, serving for seven years until 1981.

He held several cabinet portfolios, including health, social services, status of women and Registrar General.

Visitation was held in Halifax Thursday; a celebration of life will take place in Judique in the summer.
