Al MacInnis Sports Centre receives $48,000 from municipality

Inverness Co. Council is giving $48,000 to the Al MacInnis Sports Centre to rennovate its facilities.

Reps from the sports centre were in Port Hood for Thursday’s regular council meeting.

They detailed the impact the centre has on the community of Port Hood, and the hockey community in Inverness Co.

After, Warden Betty Ann MacQuarrie said the sports centre brings a lot of value to the area.

“They, more or less, identified themselves as a regional arena that provides excellent hockey through the Cape Breton West program,” she said. “Not only for the AAA midgets, but also for the minor hockey system, and I think it works well.”

MacQuarrie said the centre is great for local hockey.

The total cost of the work at the Al MacInnis Sports Centre will be almost $150,000.
