A judge has found a man charged with multiple firearms offences following an incident in Inverness Co. not criminally responsible.
RCMP say officers were called when someone pointed a gun at a woman and her family members while they were in a vehicle in Port Hood in October.
They say the woman fled in her vehicle, and the man fired the gun four times into the air as she drove away; no one was hurt.
Police say they went the suspect’s home and contained the area; he tried to leave in a vehicle, but he was stopped and arrested without incident.
They say they seized a loaded shotgun from his back seat.
Jean Francois Houle, 48, of Glencoe Station was sent to the East Coast Forensic Hospital for an assessment three days after the incident.
Houle was found not criminally responsible due to mental disorder during a hearing in Port Hawkesbury Provincial Court Monday; he was sent back to the East Coast Forensic Hospital for a disposition hearing and a plan going forward.
