MODG warden says they can’t move on municipal elections without provincial direction

The warden of the Municipality of the District of Guysborough says they’re waiting on direction from their provincial counterparts on the upcoming municipal elections.

Vernon Pitts says reps with the Nova Scotia Federation of Municipalities are working with provincial officials, but they haven’t gotten any direction so far.

Pitts says they need word from their provincial counterparts before they can act.

“We’re just a creation of the province- we don’t set the terms and conditions,” he says. “They legislate the law.”

Pitts says they need to know soon, because it seems COVID-19 restrictions will last into the summer.

He says that would leave little time to train election workers.
