Mulgrave mayor says province letting town flounder

The mayor of Mulgrave says, with increasing mandatory contributions to the province and stagnant transfer payments, this year’s budget is a major concern.

Ralph Hadley says increasing cost of policing, education, and infrastructure, among others, is making it hard for the small town to survive.

During May’s regular council meeting, Hadley said the province is pushing them around.

“I think the province has a hidden agenda, they want us to go bankrupt and push us to amalgamation somewheres,” he said. “I strongly believe in that. The way this came down, I’m very upset on that, but they’re not leaning out to help us.”

Hadley said their financial situation is dire, and this year’s budget will be a real challenge.
