Hundreds of people gathered in Inverness Co. to support the Black Lives Matter movement.
The event, which took place on the Mabou Arena grounds, had guest speakers including African Nova Scotian and Mi’kmaq leaders.
One of the organizers, Melanie MacDonald says racism doesn’t just happen in the big cities, it also takes place in our small communities and this event needed to happen.
“I just really felt like it was needed here. I know that racism happens here in Inverness Co. and I think we need to do something about that.”
MacDonald says this event was only the first step to stop racism in the Quad Counties.
Port Hawkesbury was also standing up against racism last night.
A Black Lives Matter rally and march took place outside the Port Hawkesbury Provincial Building.
