Local fishers receive season extension

Lobster season has been extended for some fishers in the Quad Counties.

Fishers in three lobster fishing areas in the Gulf of St. Lawrence, including area 26 which covers Antigonish and Inverness counties, have received a four-day extension from officials with the Department of Fisheries and Oceans.

Their season, which normally starts April 30 and ends June 30, was delayed two weeks due to COVID-19.

Fishers requested an extension to counter the delay; it will now continue until July 4.
