Increases to the Canada Child Benefit

Back in May, families already receiving the Canada Child Benefit received a (one time) $300/child top-up in addition to the regular payment.

Now, beginning this month, the Government will increase the overall benefit to include more families and increase the amount eligible families receive.

The total investment is $18 million which makes it the largest increase to the CCB since it was created in 1998.

It will break down as follows:

  • up to $6,765 per child under age 6
  • up to $5,708 per child age 6 through 17

The amount a family receives is based on income, low and middle-income families get higher payments. Those with the highest incomes (generally over $150,000) will receive less than under the previous system.

You can use this Child Care Benefit Calculator to predict how much you may receive.
