COVID-19 has spurred a number of provincial road projects in Inverness Co.
Inverness MLA Allan MacMaster says crews are reconstructing Coady Road in Southwest Margaree and Crandall Road in Port Hastings; as well as repaving sections of the East Margaree Road near Doyle’s Bridge and the Belle Cote Beach Road, both of those in Margaree.
MacMaster tells The Hawk the Belle Cote Beach Road is especially important because of its position in the local fishing industry.
“There’s millions of dollars of seafood that’re landed at that wharf every year,” he says. “And they need to bring down vessels that are worth in the hundreds of thousands of dollars.”
MacMaster says the other roads are all important thoroughfares in their communities.
In addition to that, an abandoned ship sunk near the mouth of the Margaree River will be removed.
MacMaster says he found a new federal program which covered derelict vessel removal and worked with provincial Lands and Forestry Minister Iain Rankin to apply for it.
“It’s something that, I think, people in the area will appreciate, especially those who felt it was an eyesore,” he says. “They’ve been waiting years for something to be done about it.”
MacMaster says it’s set to be removed by the end of 2021.
