Both of our MPs have added their voices to the many calling for a full public inquiry into the Portapique mass shooting.
Antigonish MP Sean Fraser released a statement on Facebook Tuesday. It says families have been calling for a public inquiry, not a review, and that means a review won’t build the trust required to be effective.
He says, since the announcement, he’s been advocating for a public inquiry with his Liberal colleagues and has spoken directly with Prime Minister Justin Trudeau on the matter.

Also in a release Tuesday, Cape Breton-Canso MP Mike Kelloway says this incident warrants a full public inquiry.
Kelloway says he’s expressed as much to Public Safety Minister Bill Blair, and he says he’ll continue to advocate for a full public inquiry.

Provincial Justice Minister Mark Furey has responded to the Liberal MPs coming out against the review.
In a statement Tuesday, he says he and the provincial government would support an inquiry if his federal counterparts agree to a joint public inquiry where federal agencies including the RCMP, Canada Border Services Agency, Criminal Intelligence Services Canada, Canadian Firearms Registry, and the Public Alert Ready System participate and offer testimony.
