Some local candidates have announced their intentions to run in the upcoming municipal elections.
James Goyetche, the incumbent District 1 (Petit-de-Grat/Arichat East) councillor in Richmond Co., will re-offer; he returned to the council table in the 2016 municipal elections after previous council stints, including as warden.
Rod Samson is also running in District 1 after a previous term on council; Samson beat Goyetche in 2012, then lost to him in 2016.
Paul Long is running in District 1 (Guysborough/Erinville/Guysborough Interval) in the Municipality of the District of Guysborough; Miles MacDonald, the current councillor, isn’t re-offering after seven years on council.
Larry Lariviere has thrown his hat in the ring for Inverness Co.‘s District 3 (Inverness/Glenville/Dunvegan); Jim Mustard, the district’s incumbent councillor, says he’s considering running again, but hasn’t made a firm decision at this point.
Meanwhile, the ballot for the Town of Port Hawkesbury is becoming a little clearer.
Blaine MacQuarrie, an incumbent town councillor, has announced his plans to seek re-election after he was first elected in a special election in Dec. 2018; Jason Aucoin says he also plans to run.
The town currently has a vacant council seat; Trevor Boudreau recently moved outside town limits, and was not granted a six-month extension to remain on council until the next election.
Brenda Chisholm-Beaton previously announced she’ll be running for a second term as mayor after she was elected in 2016; she was first elected to council in 2012.
Voters across the province are scheduled to cast their ballots Oct. 17.
